How to Download Your Birthday Celebration as an MP4 Video

A birthday surprise link is meant to be opened on the day. Friends tap through, watch the photos, and sometimes add a wish. That page stays live for 24 hours, then it comes down. If you want a file you can keep, replay, and send around without asking everyone to open a URL, download the celebration as a video.

On most phones and browsers the file is a real .mp4. It is a short vertical recap of the page: the name, the three photos, the caption that belongs with each photo, and the soundtrack if you chose one. You can attach that clip in WhatsApp, drop it into a group chat, or save it for yourself after the link expires.

What the downloaded video includes

The export is not a screen recording of you scrolling. The page records a compact, phone-sized video from the same photos and words you already added.

  • Their name on a celebration-style background
  • Each photo in order, with its own message underneath
  • The music you picked, mixed into the file so viewers do not need the live page
  • A short, story-shaped frame so it looks natural on a phone

That makes it useful in two directions. Send the video to friends who want to see the surprise quickly. Send the live link to people who should open the full page, leave a wish, or watch it with sound in the original layout.

A link is still the best way to give someone the real celebration. Guests can add messages there. The layout and motion are designed for that page. A video does a different job.

Friends in a busy group chat will often watch a clip and skip an unfamiliar URL. Someone on a slow connection can save the file and open it later. You can play the recap on a TV before cake without passing a phone around. And after 24 hours, the page is gone — the .mp4 is the keepsake.

Use both when you can: the link for the birthday person and close family, the video for the wider circle that helped you plan.

How to download the MP4

  1. Publish the celebration and open the live page on your phone or laptop.
  2. Find the share bar. Tap Video or Download video.
  3. Wait while the page records the recap. You will see a short progress indicator. Keep the tab open until it finishes.
  4. The file downloads to your device, usually named something like `wishhappybday-your-route-video.mp4`.
  5. Attach that file in WhatsApp, iMessage, Telegram, or email, or save it to your camera roll and upload it to a story.

You can also open the share studio used for Instagram, WhatsApp, and Facebook images. The same Download video action is there if you are already making a story card.

The recording happens in your browser. The photos are not sent to a separate video server. Give it about the length of the clip, plus a few seconds to save the file.

Sharing the video with friends

In a direct chat. Send a one-line note, then the video, then the link. For example: “We made this for [name] — watch the clip, and open the link if you want to add a wish.” People who only want the montage can stop at the file. People who want to participate still have the URL.

In a group. Upload the .mp4 once instead of asking ten people to tap the same link at the same time. Mention that the live page is there for wishes. If the group includes people who should not see the photos, do not attach the video there.

On a story or status. Vertical video fits Instagram Stories, WhatsApp Status, and Facebook Stories. Add the celebration link as a sticker or in the caption if you want viewers to open the full page. Skip the public story if the photos are private.

At an in-person party. Cast or AirPlay the file, or play it from the downloads folder on a laptop. You do not need the live site to stay on screen.

What to expect on different browsers

Chrome and Safari usually save a genuine .mp4. That file opens on iPhones, Android phones, laptops, and most TVs without extra apps. Firefox may download a .webm file instead, because it cannot always mux MP4 in the browser. A .webm still plays in the browser and in many Android apps. If you need a clip that a relative can open on an older phone, record the video in Chrome or Safari.

If the button is missing or the export fails, the device may not support browser recording. Try another browser, use the share image instead, or send the link on its own. Nothing is wrong with the celebration page itself.

Keep the 24-hour limit in mind

Download the video while the page is still live. After 24 hours the celebration is unpublished and the link stops working. The file on your phone does not expire. If you want a copy for the birthday person, send them the .mp4 before the day ends, or as a follow-up the next morning.

Do not put addresses, travel plans, or photos someone would not want forwarded into the page. The video is as easy to share as any other file. Treat it like a private album, not a public post, unless everyone in the pictures is comfortable with that.

A simple order that works

Publish the page. Download the video. Send the birthday person the link at the time you chose. Send the .mp4 to the friends who helped you, or attach both in the same group thread. Save a copy in your photos if you want the recap after the site comes down.

The page is the surprise. The video is the version you can hand to people and keep.
